Last week, on 12-14 June, the tenth seminar for foreign publishers took place. As part of this cyclical event, the Book Institute presents the most interesting phenomena on the Polish publishing market to guests from all over the world.
The guests were welcomed by the director of the Institute, Grzegorz Jankowicz, and Agnieszka Urbanowska, head of the Foreign Programs Office, introduced them to the institute's programs aimed at publishers, translators and agents from around the world.
Over the course of three days, the guests had the opportunity to learn about the most interesting new releases in recent years, which were introduced to them by Paulina Małochleb, Michał Koza and Marcin Wilk. Above all, however, the seminar was an opportunity for publishers from Poland and abroad to establish contacts, as B2B meetings are an important part of it.
In addition, foreign publishers took part in meetings with Artur Domosławski, Stanisław Łubieński, Małgorzata Lebda, Maciej Płaza and Weronika Murek, and Maryla Szymiczkowa – the duo of Jacek Dehnel and Piotr Tarczyński – guided the guests around Krakow in the footsteps of crime novels about Professor Szczupaczyńska.
The seminar was attended by representatives of seventeen publishing houses: Manshorat Al-Jamal/Alkamel Verlag (Lebanon/Iraq/UAE), Siltala Publishing (Finland), Turbine (Denmark), Rámus (Sweden), Verlag Klaus Wagenbach (Germany), Die Andere Bibliothek/Aufbau (Germany), Marsilio Editori (Italy), Scribe (Australia), Open Letter Books (USA), Yedioth Books Ltd. (Israel), Prosak Forlag (Sweden), Metaichmio Publications (Greece), Columbia University Press (USA), MTO Press (USA), Les Argonautes Éditeur (France), Koppernik (Netherlands) and Absynt (Czech Republic/Slovakia).
The guests also attended this year’s Transatlantyk Prize Gala, during which the award was received by Xavier Farré.
The seminar ended on Saturday.
